Siddiq Saunderson
Siddiq Saunderson was born on 15th December 1996, in Brooklyn, New York City, USA, and has been acting since his adolescent years. With a number of roles under his belt already, Siddiq, who describes himself as a ‘multi-disciplinary artist’, graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting.
According to online sources, Siddiq was in a relationship with his co-star Zolee Griggs, however, these claims were later debunked. Although their characters in “Wu-Tang Clan: An American Saga” had a secret love affair and became young parents, Siddiq and Zolee have not been romantically involved in real life, and as far as we’re aware, the actor is single.
Although Siddiq has yet to reach mainstream fame, his family is well-known in their local community. His grandmother, Ibon Muhammad, was recently honored with a bronze sculpture by the Mocada Museum for all the work she’s done in the Brooklyn area, where she was born and raised.
‘She’s been an urban planner, and centered her work around protecting black and brown families from displacement,’ the actor wrote in an Instagram post, adding that he was proud to come from his family, and would build on her legacy. He also previously uploaded photos with his sister, with whom he shares a close relationship.
Siddiq’s first credited role was in 2013, when he played a party guest in the short “It Felt Like Love”. He then had a bit role in the series “Redwood Time”, then went on a five-year hiatus, presumably to focus on perfecting his craft.
In 2018, he returned to the acting scene with a role in the indie short “Not Like Other Girls”. In 2019, the actor guest-starred in an episode of “Boomerang”, followed by his first recurring role as Keon Woods in three episodes of “Messiah”. Since then, he’s played Mercutio in a modern adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, “R#J”, and had roles in “East New York” and “Mother’s Milk”.
However, the role that has the potential to change Siddiq’s career trajectory is that of Dennis Coles in “Wu-Tang: An American Saga”. The biographical series was created by musician RZA and screenwriter Alex Tse, and premiered in September 2019 on Hulu. Chronicling a fictionalized account of how the Wu-Tang Clan came to be, the final season of the show aired in February 2023, and was well-received by audiences and critics alike.
“An American Saga” is set in the early 1990s in New York City during the height of the crack cocaine epidemic. In the series, Bobby Diggs (RZA’s birth name, played by Ashton Sanders) forms the group as a way to carve his own path to fame and give his family a better life. Meanwhile, his older brother Mitchell (played by Julian Elijah Martinez) is a drug dealer whose profession threatens to destroy everything that Bobby is working for.
Siddiq’s character, Dennis Coles, is in real life a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clang and goes by the stage name of Ghostface Killah. Dennis was born in May 1970 and grew up in the impoverished Stapleton Houses project in Staten Island, helping care for his two younger brothers who had muscular dystrophy.
Although Dennis feuded with his fellow Clan member Raekwon in the show, this didn’t happen in real life; in fact, they attended junior high school together and were almost as close as brothers.
Wu-Tang Clan
One of the most iconic hip-hop collectives in American history, many fans of the Wu-Tang Clan feel that the Hulu series was long overdue, and should’ve had more seasons. The collective was formed in Staten Island in 1992, with notable members including RZA, GZA, Method Man, and others. Their debut album, “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” was released a year later and is considered one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time, as is also the case for their 1997 sophomore project, “Wu-Tang Forever”, which was nominated for Best Rap Album at the Grammy Awards.
Although their later projects were nowhere near as successful, the Wu-Tang Clan is credited with launching the careers of many affiliated artists and groups. It all began in the late 1980s, when RZA – who didn’t go by that name yet – formed the All in Together Now Crew with his cousins Gary Grice and Russell Jones. Despite not signing to any major label, the trio was popular in the local rap scene, and received co-signs from Biz Markie and other musicians.

In the early 1990s, the three members adopted new names, and RZA began collaborating with Dennis. They created a hip-hop group based on the teachings of the Five-Percent Nation and other elements of Eastern philosophy: The Wu-Tang Clan.
Although it took some time for problems to arise within the group, rumors of tension began brewing when it was revealed that the manager of one of the Clan members was, or had been, a police informant. The manager was subsequently fired, whereas the artist he had been representing, Cappadonna, was airbrushed out of the artwork of the group’s fourth album, “Iron Flag”. However, in later years, he continued to collaborate and tour with the Clan.
More problems came in 2004 when one of the members, U-God, left the group, claiming that his solo career had been hindered by RZA. He later released a DVD, “Rise of a Fallen Soldier”, detailing his time with the Clan; the dispute between U-God and RZA led to a heated phone conversation which played out on live radio. Nevertheless, they reconciled, with U-God later returning to the group.
The death of Russell Jones (better known by his stage name of Ol’ Dirty Bastard) in November 2004 came as a hard blow to the Clan. The rapper’s tumultuous career saw him arrested for shoplifting, possession of cocaine, and a number of other offenses, and his legal woes were made worse by his missed court dates, and subsequent four-year prison sentence.
After collapsing at the Clan’s recording studio in New York City, Russell was later pronounced dead. The group has since paid homage to him on various occasions; for example, in August 2006, they brought one of his sons out at a concert at Webster Hall, where he and his mother rapped Russell’s verse on “Brooklyn Zoo”.
Despite these unfortunate incidents, the Clan is still touring together, and after three decades boasts one of the most impressive discographies in hip-hop. As for Siddiq, he is reportedly worth $300,000 thanks to his acting career.
He’s now 27 years old, and reportedly 5ft 11ins (180cm) tall, the only known statistic.
