Who is Rotimi?

Olurotimi Akinosho, known better by his professional name Rotimi, was born in Maplewood, New Jersey USA, on 30 November 1988 – his zodiac sign is Sagittarius, and he holds both American and Nigerian nationality. He’s an actor, film producer, director, model, and singer, who has appeared in close to 50 movies and TV series, while he’s perhaps known best for his portrayal of Ezra in the critically acclaimed 2014 action adventure mystery movie “Divergent”. It was directed by Neil Burger, starred Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Kate Winslet, and follows Tris who’s living in a world divided by factions, and has discovered that the faction Divergents is going to be annihilated; the movie won seven of the 18 awards for which it was nominated.

Early life and education

Rotimi was raised in Maplewood alongside his sisters Ayo and Oreoluwa Akinosho, by their Nigerian father who was an investment banker, and their Nigerian mother who’s a housewife.

He became interested in acting while attending Columbia High School, and was a member of its drama club, appearing in various plays performed at the school and a local theatre. Rotimi was highly sporting during those four years, and played basketball for the school’s team, while he was also a member of the school’s choir.

Upon matriculating in 2006, he enrolled at Northwestern University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in communication in 2010.

Roles in movies

Rotimi made his debut film appearance in the 2011 drama “Cooper and Stone”, directed by John Dahl, and which starred Alexandra Breckenridge, Vanessa Ferlito and Riley Smith. It follows the lives of two young female detectives working in Chicago.

A couple of his following roles were in the 2013 family musical drama “Black Nativity”, the 2014 drama “Imperial Dream”, and the 2015 short musical “T. I. G’ Shit: Extended Version”. Rotimi played the main character Manny in the 2015 drama “Darkest Before Dawn”, directed by Kid Art, and which also starred George Katt and Pusha T; the movie follows a young musician, and his friends who are jealous of him.

The year 2017 saw Rotimi play Edwin in the drama “Burning Sands”, written and directed by Gerard McMurray, and which starred Trevor Jackson, Tosin Cole and DeRon Horton. Roles in TV series

Rotimi made his debut TV series appearance in the 2011 crime drama “Boss”, created by Farhad Safinia, and which starred Kelsey Grammer, Connie Nielsen and Hannah Ware.

The series follows Mayor Tom Kane who has just been diagnosed with dementia, and it won one of the six awards for which it was nominated.

Rotimi appeared in three episodes of the 2013 popular drama “Betrayal”, and then played Danny in the 2015 episodes “Old Wounds” and “Old Flames” of the hit crime comedy drama “Battle Creek”, created by Vince Gilligan and David Shore, and which starred Josh Duhamel, Dean Winters and Aubrey Dollar. The series follows two very different detectives who are working together.

Between 2015 and 2020, Rotimi played the supporting character Dre in the crime drama “Power”, created by Courtney A. Kemp, and which starred Omari Hardwick and Lela Loren. It follows a wealthy New York City club owner who’s also a drug kingpin, and the series won 14 of the 40 awards for which it has been nominated.

Rotimi’s most recent role has been his portrayal of Jake in five episodes of the 2021 drama mini-series “A Luv Tale: The Series”.

Most recently, in 2019 Rotimi released his single “Love Riddim”.

On 25 November 2019, he uploaded a picture onto his Instagram account featuring himself and the Tanzanian singer Vanessa Mdee on a date. Vanessa uploaded the same picture onto her Instagram account a couple of days later, and revealed that they were in a relationship; she later said in an interview that she knew Rotimi would be her husband the moment she saw him.

They became engaged in December 2020, and on 29 September 2021, Vanessa gave birth to their son; Rotimi and Vanessa are yet to exchange vows.

Rotimi hasn’t spoken of any other women whom he has perhaps been with, and as of March 2022, he’s engaged to Vanessa Mdee, hasn’t married and has a son with Vanessa.

Rotimi’s quite active on Instagram, and seems to be enjoying the attention which he’s receiving from his close to three million followers; he’s uploaded nearly 2,000 pictures onto the network, most of which have been taken during his everyday life.

He’s physically highly active, and works out at the gym nearly every day, thus his muscular body. Rotimi often uploads pictures and videos which feature him working out onto his Instagram account, and occasionally gives his fans advice on proper workout routines.
