Who is Khali?

American actress and social media personality Khali Daniya-Renee Spraggins was born under the zodiac sign Virgo on 19 September 2005, in Chicago, Illinois USA. She’s appeared in nine movies and TV series, and is probably known best for playing Aaliyah Upshaw, one of the main characters in all 32 episodes of the comedy series “The Upshaws”, which was created by Wanda Sykes and Regina Y. Hicks in 2021, and today also stars Kim Fields and Mike Epps. The series follows the lives of members of an African-American family from Indiana, and has won one of the 14 awards for which it’s been nominated.

Khali’s today quite active in the film industry, and is currently working on multiple projects.

Education and early life

Khali was raised in Chicago alongside her younger sister and two younger brothers, by their parents about whom Khali prefers not to speak in public, but to whom she’s very close; she’s revealed that it was her father who supported her the most, as he enrolled her at Mayfair Academy of Fine Arts after having noticed her passion for acting and dancing.

Khali fell in love with dancing at a quite an early age, and learned hip hop after enrolling at Mayfair; she eventually became interested in acting, and was 11 when she was spotted by an agent and signed a contract with Big Mouth Talent and Management, which came with a scholarship to an acting school.

Khali studied at a local high school in Chicago, and was a cheerleader for the school’s football team The Bulldogs; she’s matriculated just recently in 2023, and has moved to Los Angeles, California to continue working her way up in the film industry.

Roles in movies

Khali’s appeared in seven movies. Her debut was playing Khali Johnson in the 2016 short comedy “Khali’s Homeschool Hijinx”, which starred Giovanni A. Bautista, Benjamin O. Bautista and Nina Adamovic, and was directed by Stacy Savic. It follows Khali who’s dissatisfied with her mother having her homeschooled, so she’s decided to create a little disruption.

The following year saw Khali play Max in the comedy “Dad and I”, and in 2018, she starred as Briana in the short drama “Among the Hidden”; it also starred Danny Legittino, Solana Price and Tulsi McDaniels, was written and directed by Abigail Helm and follows the lives of two best friends.

Also in 2018, Khali played Mari in the short drama “Made in His Image”, which starred Garley GiGi Tonye Briggs, Leilani Batteast and Hayley Alexander, and was written and directed by Anah Ambuchi. It follows a young black girl who’s being bullied by other black students for unknown reasons, while she’s found strength to confront them thanks to her mother’s story.

Khali went on to portray Hannah in the 2018 short drama “Mulatto”, starring alongside T. J. Karam. The film was written and directed by Orlando Pinder, and aims to cover racism which exists in the US.

She played Child 1 in the 2018 short drama “Redlining”, written and directed by Mariah Woods, and which starred Rebecca Haubrich, Cristiana Barbatelli and Terrance S. Allen; it follows the life of a young African-American girl.

Khali’s only other film role has been playing Neighborhood Kid in the 2019 family drama “Black Privilege”, which starred Sarah Cigan, Malcom Banks and Anah Ambuchi, and was written and directed by Mark Harris; it follows several low-income families who’ve moved to a wealthy black community in Chicago.

Roles in TV series

Khali’s appeared in only one other series besides “The Upshaws”. In 2020, she played 12 Year Old Cookie in the episode “I Am Who I Am” of the musical “Empire”, which starred Jussie Smollett, Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, and was created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong. It follows a music mogul who has to decide who will inherit his fortune, the series aired from 2015 through 2020, and won 30 of the 136 awards for which it was nominated.

Khali was nominated for a 2023 Image Award for Outstanding Performance by a Youth in a Series, for her performance in “The Upshaws”.

Love life and relationships

Khali prefers not to share the details of her love life with her fans, but this has only led them to start various rumors on the internet, most of which concern her sexual orientation.

Some of Khali’s fans believe that they’ve recently seen a girl highly resembling Khali spending time with her girlfriend in Los Angeles, but no evidence has been provided to support these claims, nor has Khali addressed the rumors of her being lesbian.

There are also some who claim that she’s today focused on working on her way up in the film industry, and thus isn’t pursuing love, but this hasn’t been confirmed either.
