Later the same year, Jay starred in short movies “The Secret Weapon” and “Stuck”, followed by his role in the 2017 critically acclaimed short drama “Benny Got Shot”, which followed the story of Naomi, an autopsy assistant, whose brother’s gone missing. That night a shooting happened, and now her biggest fear is that his body may be in the morgue where she works. The movie won the Atlanta Film Festival Award.

Later in 2017, Jay landed the role of Dresean in the drama “Listen”, written and directed by Erahm Christopher, which although having no nominations, had great reviews, and the audience rated it 9.1/10.

Jay’s breakthrough role came in 2018, when he was cast to play Shawn Scott in the sports drama “All American”, starring Daniel Ezra, Michael Evans Behling and Samantha Logan. The series follows the story of a football player who was a high school star in South Central, and is now recruited to play for a high school in Beverly Hills. It’s inspired by the life story of Spencer Paysinger, a National Football League (NFL) Superbowl Champion. The show had eight award nominations and two wins.

When it comes to Jay’s performance in the show, he was seen in less than 10 episodes during 2018 and 2019, however, it seems that his appearance in the series was enough to leave a mark in the world of television.
