Early Life, Family, and Education
Born Georg Moritz Hagen Listing under the zodiac sign of Aries on 31 March 1987, in Halle, (then) East Germany, the famous bassist holds German nationality, and was raised an only child. by his parents, Hagen, a dentist, and Christine, a doctor. Although his father wanted Georg to follow in his footsteps and become a dentist, it seems that Georg was destined for a life immersed in music.
From an early age, it was evident that Georg possessed a deep passion for music. His parents, who recognized his musical aptitude, supported his early musical education. Georg began playing the bass guitar at the age of 14, showcasing an innate talent that hinted at the extraordinary career that lay ahead.
Unlike his fellow bandmates who left school in 2005 as Tokio Hotel soared to success, Georg remained committed to completing high school until 2006. His resolve was clear – he wanted that diploma in hand before immersing himself entirely in the band’s whirlwind of activity.
Jamming with Tokio Hotel
In 2001, Georg joined forces with his best friend Gustav Schäfer, and the Kaulitz twins, Bill and Tom, to create a musical concoction that seamlessly blended rock, pop, and electronic vibes. Their first band was called Devilish, and they played in numerous clubs under this name. They even released an album of seven tracks, which they produced, and sold after their concerts. They sent it to some record labels, however, it seems that German record companies didn’t recognize their potential.
In 2003, the band signed with the American record label, Universal Records, and changed their name to ‘Tokio Hotel’ in the following year.

In 2005, Tokio Hotel’s debut album, “Schrei“, launched them into the international spotlight. The band released their second album, “Zimmer 783“ in 2007. Packed with commercially successful tunes, these albums turned Tokio Hotel into a massive internet and worldwide media sensation, reminiscent of the boy bands that dominated the ’90s.
Their popularity skyrocketed, especially in Europe, triggering hysteria, and at times even causing fainting among young teenage girls attending the band’s concerts and events. Georg’s bass prowess laid the foundation for Tokio Hotel’s signature sound, and his charismatic stage presence made him a fan favorite. Some media outlets went so far as to draw parallels between Tokio Hotel’s popularity and the fan frenzy sparked by none other than the Beatles. Notably, the band boasts a remarkable record, having sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
Their third album, “Humanoid“, was released in 2009, but as the 2010s rolled around, the group opted for a more low-key approach, taking a step back from the media frenzy that had characterized the previous decade. Despite this retreat, Tokio Hotel remained enduringly popular in their native Germany. Their return to the discography scene in 2014 with “Kings of Suburbia“ and later in 2017 with “Dream Machine“ marked a comeback for the band, signaling a new chapter in their musical journey. Their latest album, “2001“, was released in 2022.
