Who is Taryn Van Dyke?

American former actress and celebrity family member Taryn Van Dyke was born under the zodiac sign Gemini on 1 June 1986, in Los Angeles, California USA. She appeared in only two TV series (and no movies) prior to leaving the film industry in 2007, so Taryn’s perhaps known best for being a granddaughter of American actor Dick Van Dyke and daughter of American actor Barry Van Dyke.

Taryn was raised alongside her older brothers Carey, Shane and Wes in Los Angeles, by their father Barry and non-celebrity American mother Mary Carey; not many details have been disclosed about her siblings, but it’s known that her brother Shane Thomas Van Dyke is today an actor and screenwriter.

Taryn studied at a local elementary school in Los Angeles and was perhaps mostly into dancing during her four years there; she was only 13 when she made her debut TV series appearance, playing Maddie in the 1999 episode “Never Say Die” of the hit crime mystery “Diagnosis Murder”, which Joyce Burditt wrote and directed, and which starred her father and grandfather. American actor Barry Van Dyke was born under the zodiac sign Leo on 31 July 1951 in Atlanta, Georgia USA. He has 50 acting credits and is perhaps known best for playing one of the main characters Lieutenant Dillon in all 10 episodes of the 1980 adventure science fiction series “Galactica 1980”, which Glen A. Larson created, and which also starred Robyn Douglass and Kent McCord. It follows the arrival of Battlestar Galactica on Earth, and the series was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Costume Design for a Series.

Barry was raised in Los Angeles alongside his younger sister Carey Wayne Van Dyke, born on 25 February 1976, by their father Dick and mother Margie Willett, who died in 2008 aged 82. Barry was 11 when he made his debut TV series appearance, playing Florian in the 1962 episode “The Talented Neighborhood” of his father’s family comedy “The Dick Van Dyke Show”, which also starred Rose Marie and Mary Tyler Moore, and follows the life of a screenwriter; the series was a hit and won 27 of its 51 award nominations. Barry was then told by his father to focus on his education, and that he can continue acting after having matriculated from high school.

He spent most of his career appearing in his father’s TV series and movies, and what marked the ‘70s for Barry was perhaps playing Dan Phillips in the 1978 episode “A Mommy for Morky” of the science fiction family comedy “Mork & Mindy”, created by Joe Glauberg and Garry Marshall, and which starred Pam Dawber and Robin Williams. It follows an alien who has come to Earth and has taken human form, the series aired from 1978 through 1982 and won five of its 18 award nominations.
