Julia Rehwald is an American-born actress and model, perhaps best known for her appearance in the film trilogy “Fear Street.”
Age, Early Life, and Education Background
Julia Rehwald hails from California, USA, and was born under the Scorpio zodiac sign on 1 November 2001, which makes her 22 years old as of 2023. She’s of Filipino roots from her mother’s side and Slavic through her dad – she’s kept her parents’ names under wraps, but has a sister and brother named Joanna and James Rehwald respectively. Joanna is an undergraduate student at the University of Portland, where she trains with the athletic group, Portland Pilots. On the other hand, her brother graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in marketing in 2015, and currently works as a video creator and social media marketer. During her time at Tisch, Julia performed in numerous plays, including “Romeo and Juliet.” She also spent a semester at the London-based Royal Academy.

Julia is a human rights activist, who participated in a Black Lives Matter event held at Cesar Chavez Park, Berkeley, California, in June 2020. She has also participated in campaigns and protests for Stop Asian Hate.
Her best-loved artist is the Filipino actress and singer Lea Salonga, whom she looks up to for inspiration. She’s disclosed that the performance of Olivia Hussey in Zeffirelli’s “Romeo and Juliet,” fueled her interest in acting – she watched the film when she was in high school.
The “Fear Street” actress is very proud of her heritage and has disclosed her dream is to make and star in a film that represents her Filipino roots.

In her spare time, Julia loves watching Japanese anime cartoons. She’s also a huge horror film fan, whose favorites are “Jennifer’s Body” and “Scream.” In an interview with the digital media outlet ‘Pop Culturalist,’ Julia disclosed that she enjoyed watching “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” with her sister. She also had fun watching the films “Sex and the City” and “Cruel Intention.”
Julia loves reading novels in her spare time – some of her favorites include James Joyce’s “Ulysses,” Haruki Murakami’s “Kafka on the Shore,” and Lysley Tenorio’s “The Son of Good Fortune.”
Before she began her acting career, Rehwald worked several odd jobs – such as a waitress at a New York City restaurant. She later began working as a model, and one of her earliest commercials was in mid-2017 for the furniture manufacturer, IKEA. She made her acting debut as Isabel in the 2017 Greyson Horst-written and directed short film “Where’s Darren,” in which she starred alongside Joel Oladapo and Alexander Fordery. Her next appearance was in the short comedy film “Mukbang Masarap.”
Rise to Prominence
In 2021, Julia learned about the mystery horror film trilogy, “Fear Street” through the American filmmaker and director, Leigh Janiak, with whom she’d worked in a previous project. Janiak encouraged her to audition for the roles of Lizzie and Kate – she landed the role of Kate Schmidt in “Fear Street Part One: 1994,” which follows a group of teenagers who take on an evil force plaguing their town for centuries, after a series of brutal murders occur. The Leigh Janiak-directed film aired on Netflix and starred Emily Rudd as Cindy Berman, Sadie Sink as Ziggy Berman, and Kiana Madeira as Deena. For her praised portrayal of Kate, Rehwald was selected to reprise her role in “Fear Street Part Two: 1978.” The 2021 film was a success, and won a ReFrame Stamp Award in 2022 – It was nominated for three awards including an MTV Movie + TV Award.
Rehwald was thereafter cast as Lizzie in the third and final installment of the “Fear Street” film series, “Fear Street Part Three: 1666,” which won a Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best Streaming Premiere Movie in 2022, and was nominated for a Hollywood Make-up Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Award in the same year. The “Fear Street” trilogy was based on an eponymous book series by the American novelist, Robert Lawrence ‘R.L.’ Stine.

In 2023, Julia appeared in the podcast series “Alethea”, and has written the short film “The Last Hurrah,” which is under production.
