Who is Malia Baker?

Canadian actress Malia Simphiwe Baker was born in Botswana under the zodiac sign Sagittarius on 18 December 2006. She has seven acting credits and is perhaps known best for playing Mary Anne Spier in 18 episodes of the popular adventure comedy series “The Baby-Sitters Club”, which starred Shay Rudolph, Momona Tamada and Sophie Grace, and was created by Rachel Shukert. It follows a group of girls who’ve launched their own babysitting service, the series aired in 2020 and 2021, and won 14 of its 42 award nominations.

Malia’s currently working on five upcoming projects, including the movies “Descendants: The Rise of Red”, “Harvest Moon” and “Spider & Jesse”.

Education and early life

Malia’s being raised in Vancouver, Canada alongside her younger sister, by their Canadian parents about whom Malia prefers not to speak in public; it’s believed that her father’s a moviemaker and her mother Julia Baker a pastry specialist, but this is yet to be confirmed by Malia. She was only born in Botswana because her parents had gone travelling around Africa.

Malia fell in love with acting at the age of seven, after appearing in a play performed at her school; she was 11 when she made her debut film appearance, portraying Malia Weir in the 2018 romantic comedy “Hope at Christmas”, which starred Erica Tremblay, Ryan Paevey and Scottie Thompson, and was directed by Alex Wright. It follows divorced Sydney who’s just inherited a house from her grandmother and has decided to spend the Christmas there with her eight years old daughter.

Malia’s currently attending a local high school in Vancouver and is set to matriculate in 2025; it remains unknown whether or not she’s going to be pursuing a college degree.

In 2019, Malia portrayed Little Girl in the episode “Someday” of the romantic comedy series “A Million Little Things”, which starred Allison Miller, Romany Malco and David Giuntoli, and was created by D. J. Nash. It follows a group of friends who’ve just lost a close friend, the series aired from 2018 through 2023, and won two of its six award nominations.

Also in 2019, Malia played Young Anna in the episode “Blurryman” of the fantasy horror series “The Twilight Zone”, which starred Kelly Ann Woods, David Epstein and Jordan Peele, and was created by Simon Kinberg and Marco Ramirez. It’s a collection of tales of horror, mystery and science fiction, and the series won five of the 18 awards for which it was nominated.

She went on to play Alice Bolen in the 2019 episode “Time Bomb” of the action adventure series “The Flash”, which starred Danielle Panabaker and Grant Gustin, and was created by Andrews Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti. It follows Barry Allen aka The Flash whose superpower is amazing speed, the series aired from 2014 through 2023, and won 29 of its 126 award nominations.

In 2021, Malia starred as Gabby Lewis in six episodes of the adventure fantasy “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”, which also starred Beatrice Kitsos and Bryce Gheisar, and was created by Ned Kandel and BenDavid Grabinski. It follows a group of children who gather at night to tell scary stories, such as “Ghost Island”, “Curse of the Shadows” and “Carnival of Doom”; the series won one of its 12 award nominations.

Malia’s only other role has been playing Olivia, one of the main characters in the 2022 thriller “Caught in His Web”, which also starred Emma Tremblay and Alison Thornton, and was directed by Hannah Cheesman. It follows three girls who are being harassed by a cyberbully, while they’ve now hired a private detective to track him/her down.

Malia’s the producer of the upcoming movie “12 Hours”.

Malia won a 2022 Leo Award for Best Performance in a Youth or Children’s Program or Series, for “The Baby-Sitters Club”.

In 2022, she was also nominated for a Leo Award for Best Youth Performance and a Children’s & Family Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Preschool, Children’s or Young Teen Program, both for “The Baby-Sitters Club”.

Love life and relationships

Malia shies away from speaking about her love life in public, and most of her fans believe her to be too young to be dating, however, there are also those who think otherwise.

Some of Malia’s fans have claimed to have recently spotted her walking in the streets of Vancouver hand in hand with her boyfriend; it’s believed that the two met in 2022 at high school, but no evidence has been provided to support these claims, nor has Malia addressed the rumors.

There are also those who believe that she’s currently focused on her, career and isn’t pursuing love but this hasn’t been confirmed either.
