Early life

Verónica Alejandra “Vero” Jaspeado Martínez was born on 6 September 1976, in Puebla State Mexico. Her father’s name is Ricardo Jaspeado, her mother is Virginia Martínez, and she has a sister.

Early education, source of career

Verónica was a student at the El Centro de Capacitación Artística de Televisa (CEA) or Televisa Artistic Training Center in Mexico City, Mexico. She also practiced acrobatics during workshops held at the Centro Universitario de Teatro (CUT or University Theater Center), part of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM – National Autonomous University of Mexico) in Mexico City.

According to Milenio Mexico, Verónica earned a master’s degree in psychotherapy at some point after 2018, and said that she was distrustful of students and professors because of the trauma following her exit from a cult.

Career

Verónica started her career in 1994 by winning the Nuestra Belleza Tlaxcala or Our Beauty Tlaxcala title at a local beauty pageant. In doing so, she qualified for the national Miss Universe beauty pageant, Nuestra Belleza México, held later that year, which she won.

Acting

Verónica’s debut in acting was brief; she appeared in an episode of the “Canción de amor” or “Love Song” television series in 1996, but her appearance and voice helped her land the role of Camila Saldívar in the “DKDA: Sueños de Juventud” or “DKDA: Dreams of Youth” soap opera aired from 1999 to 2000. She performed the song that she wrote – “Pólvora Mojada” or “Wet Gunpowder” – for the series soundtrack, and joined the DKDA band formed for the series. During that time, she also joined the Mexican musical group called Mestizzo.

In 2002, Verónica landed the role of Apolonia Portugal in “La Otra” or “The Other Woman,” establishing her reputation as a telenovela actress. That attracted the attention of Ernesto Alonso, a well-known actor who was known as “Mr. Telenovela” due to his experience, and she played Mirta Fernández del Ara alongside him in the “Amarte es mi Pecado” or “Loving You is My Sin” in 2004. From 2006 to 2008, Verónica portrayed Vera Esmeralda in 230 episodes of “Amor mío”, and starred as Ximena Sermeño in about 220 episodes of “Un gancho al corazón” from 2008 to 2009.

She was reportedly in DOS, the name for the cult’s inner circle allegedly focused on empowering women, until about 2018, when the cult’s leader, Keith Raniere, was arrested.

In the “Ventaneando” or “Windowing” talk show interview that March, Verónica said that she was sure it couldn’t happen to her. Unfortunately, she fell for the false promises and was a member alongside Mexican actor Emiliano Salinas, which reassured her. Unsurprisingly, she didn’t discuss it out of shame and fear.
