The Wealth of Ellen Wong
How rich is Ellen Wong? As of early-2019, sources estimate a net worth that is at $600,000, earned through a successful career in acting. She’s been active in the industry since 2005 and has been nominated for several awards. As she continues her endeavors, it is expected that her wealth will also continue to increase.
Early Life, Education, and Acting Beginnings
Ellen is of Chinese Cambodian descent – her parents decided to move to Canada during the Cambodian genocide which saw the deaths of approximately two million people during the reign of the Khmer Rogue. She grew-up in Canada and attended the L’Amoreaux Collegiate Institute, where she discovered her passion for acting and began gaining experience in community theatre while also taking television production jobs.
After matriculating from high school, she enrolled at Ryerson University studying radio and television arts, concurrently gaining one of her earliest professional roles in the legal comedy drama “This Is Wonderland”. She has also been a taekwondo practitioner for most of her life, and gained a black belt in the martial arts but stopped competing in the sport due to her acting endeavors. In 2006, she landed a role in the drama series “Runaway”, but her martial arts background eventually earned her an opportunity to be cast in one of her most notable roles.
Scott Pilgrim and Rise to Fame
In 2009, she was cast as Knives Chau in the film “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”, actually having to audition for the role three times; she mentioned that she wanted the role as it was not a typical part available during that period. The action film is based on the graphic novel series “Scott Pilgrim” and stars Michael Cera as the titular character, a musician who must battle the seven evil exes of his newest girlfriend Ramona.
After the film, Wong appeared in the show “Unnatural History”, then had a recurring role in the series “Combat Hospital” in the recurring role of Nurse Suzy Chao. In 2012, she had the role of an illegal immigrant smuggled across the ocean in a shipping container in the short film “Silent Cargo”, and was nominated for an ACTRA Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female thanks to her performance in the project. In 2012, she was cast in the series entitled “The Carrie Diaries”, the prequel to “Sex and the City”, playing Carrie’s best friend from high school, Jill “Mouse” Chen.

During the same year, Ellen was cast in the loose remake of the horror film “Silent Night, Deadly Night” entitled “Silent Night”, the sixth installment of the franchise. In 2016 she became a part of the second season of the show “Dark Matter”, and was then cast in another notable role for the series “GLOW”, which is inspired by the 1980s professional wrestling league of the same name. She plays the character Jenny, an immigrant from Cambodia who is obsessed with pop culture. Her character’s wrestling persona is named Fortune Cookie.
According to her, she enjoys the role because she plays two characters, one in the ring who is a stereotype but the character is actually a much more complex person outside of her work. Her character is seen fighting through all these stereotypes in the 1980s, but is ironically a stereotype herself. A few of her latest projects include “The Circle” which stars Tom Hanks and Emma Watson, and is based on Dave Eggers novel of the same name. She also appeared as her “GLOW” character in the music video for the song “Swish Swish” by Katy Perry. She has recently been cast in a recurring role in the series “Condor”, which is based on the novel “Six Days of the Condor” and the film adaptation “Three Days of the Condor”.
For her personal life, it is known that Wong is often seen with film director Adam Azimov, travelling and attending events together as seen in her social media posts; however, neither of them have confirmed whether or not they are in a romantic relationship – she has managed to keep that aspect of her life away from the spotlight. She also mentioned in an interview that it was particularly difficult for her parents to accept her foray into the acting industry. They were worried about how the job may be an unstable source of income, while there are so many other options out there. Despite that, she has managed to make waves in acting.
Ellen is multilingual and speaks several languages fluently, including Cantonese, Taishanese, Khmer, Mandarin and English. During her free time, she enjoys watching movies, going out with friends and travelling. She is also passionate about animal rescue, and is a dog lover, supporting various animal adoption organizations. Similar to numerous actresses, she has accounts on various major social media websites.
