Gloria Elizabeth Reuben was born on the 9th June 1964, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of Jamaican-born parents Cyril George, an engineer, and Pearl Avis Reuben, a classical singer. Gloria’s father died when she was a little girl, while her half-brother, Denis Simpson, a former actor and children’s television host, died in 2010. Reuben started learning piano as a young kid, and then studied music technique and theory, jazz and ballet at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. After appearing in a few television commercials, she decided to pursue a career in acting.

Career Beginnings and the early 90s

Gloria’s first on-screen credit came in 1987 in an episode of the Primetime Emmy Award-winning series “CBS Schoolbreak Special”, and the same year she also appeared in an episode of the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated show “Alfred Hitchcock Presents”.
