Jessica Matten was born on the 30^th November 1985, in Edmonton, Alberta Canada, and apart from being of Canadian nationality, she is also of Chinese, Ukrainian, British and French as well as of Métis/Saulteaux Cree descent. Due to her mixed and ‘indigenous’ ancestry, at the age of 14 young Jessica suffered some racial discrimination from her coevals. Further details about Jessica’s family background have never been publicly disclosed to the present day, except that her mother, Theresa Ducharme is the founder and current CEO of Lemon Cree Non-Profit Society. Upon completing her primary and secondary education, Jessica enrolled at the University of Alberta from which she later graduated and achieved her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Ecology. She then went to Vancouver Acting School at the Shoreline Studio where she studied acting, and in addition attended University of the Arts London’s Central Saint Martins design college.

Her acting career debut occurred when she appeared briefly in the short movie entitled “Pigs” in 2010. During the course its three seasons, Matten appeared in all 18 episodes of the show, starring alongside Jason Momoa, Zoe Boyle and Landon Liboiron.
