Early Life, Education, and Career Beginnings

Wendie is the daughter of a former model and a salesman, and is of mixed Egyptian, English, German and French descent. She attended Williamsville South High School and after matriculating in 1969, enrolled at the Ohio Wesleyan University during which time she signed with the Wilhelmina modelling agency, and began her career in 1972. She then ventured into politics, working under Republican Congressman Jack Kemp, before leaving DC to try her hand at a career in acting.

One of her first projects was the 1982 film “A Little Sex”, and she also auditioned for the role of Diane Chambers in the sitcom “Cheers” but was unsuccessful. Her first regular role was in the medical drama series entitled “Trauma Center”, which was short lived as it only lasted a season, then during the late 1980s, she started transitioning to comedic roles, appearing in “Kate & Allie” and “Scrooged’, in which she played Bill Murray’s sister-in-law.

In 1990, Malick was cast in the comedy series “Dream On” playing the neurotic but endearing wife Judith Tupper Stone; she stayed with the show for six years, and won four CableAce Awards for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. Concurrently she worked on other series such as “Tales from the Crypt”, “Seinfeld” and “NYPD Blue”, and also did television movies such as “Apollo 11”, “Dynasty: The Reunion”, and the independent film “Jerome”.

After her run with “Dream On”, she starred as the lead of her own series – “Good Company” -but which only lasted for six episodes before being cancelled. From 1997 she starred in the sitcom “Just Shoot Me!”, playing a former supermodel in the series until its end in 2003, and was nominated for numerous awards including a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy Award. She also starred in the animated film “The Emperor’s New Groove”, before then joining the cast of “Frasier”, playing the lounge singer Ronee Lawrence, and remaining until the series finale, when her character married.

During the mid-2000s, Wendie was given numerous projects including “Jake in Progress”, “Modern Men” and “Racing Stripes”. She provided voice work for the animated series “Bratz” playing the character Burdine Maxwell, then starred in the series “Big Day” before making a guest appearance in both “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and “Law & Order”. In 2010, she was cast as the character Victoria Chase in “Hot in Cleveland” – her character was a six-time divorced Emmy Award-winning soap opera star. The show was highly successful, gaining a lot of positive reviews, and Wendie was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award and stayed with the series until its final season in 2014.

She also starred in the Hallmark movie “After All These Years” based on the book of the same name by Susan Isaccs. After her run with “Hot in Cleveland”, she was cast in the series “Rush Hour” which is based on the film franchise of the same name, but the show was cancelled after a season. She then starred in the series “Pitch”, and made a guest appearance in “NCIS: New Orleans”. Personal Life

For her personal life, it is known that Malick married actor and screenwriter Mitch Glazer in 1982, but they divorced in 1989. She has now been married to Richard Erickson since 1995; she has never had any children, and she and her husband reside in Santa Monica, California. She owns several pets including a cat, two horses and three dogs. She is also a pescatarian, meaning that she only eats seafood as her source of meat.

During her free time, she is involved in various charitable and political endeavors. She often donates to Democratic political candidates, causes and organizations. She is a board member of the Environmental Media Association and is also a member of the board of advocates for Planned Parenthood, and a member of the advisory board of The Humane Society of the United States, a nonprofit organization based in DC which aims to resolve animal welfare problems through various strategies and resources.
