Who was Preston Roberts?
Preston Roberts was born on the 17th July 1957, in Westfield, New Jersey USA, and was a naturalist and active environmentalist, probably best recognized for being a reality television personality, who was one of the cast of the reality series named “Mountain Men”, which has been airing on the History Channel since 2012. He passed away in 2017.

Preston Roberts was diagnosed with a liver cancer in 2017. Unfortunately, he did not manage to win the battle of life as the tumor was found to be inoperable, so he passed away surrounded by his loving wife Kathleen and family on the 24th July 2017, at the age of 60, in Wilkes County, North Carolina, only three weeks after he was diagnosed, leaving his family and fans shocked. Following his death, a GoFundMe website was run to raise funds to help Kathleen and their children. It is still active.
Early Life and Education
Speaking about his early life, Preston Roberts spent his childhood in the small town of Brevard, North Carolina, nearby the Pisgah National Forest, where he was raised the eldest child alongside his four younger sisters by his parents. Other information about his parents has not been revealed to the media.
Regarding his education, Preston attended Atlantic Christian College, then transferred to Appalachian State University, from which he graduated with a degree in Art Education.
Friendship with Eustace Conway
Before his graduation in 1982, Preston met Eustace Conway and the two became very good friends, sharing the same interests and in particular love for nature, so they spent time together riding horses across South and North Carolina, and also moved across Montana, Nebraska and Wyoming. Subsequently, Preston co-established the Turtle Island Preserve, located in Boone, North Carolina, alongside Eustace and served on its Board of Directors, adding a considerable amount to his net worth.
Career as an Art Teacher
Before Preston became known all over the world, he alsp worked in the position of an art teacher in the Wilkes County School System in North Carolina. Thanks to his accomplishments as a great mentor, he was named ‘teacher of the year’ two times by his associates. He spent 25 years in that position which increased further his net worth, before retiring in 2010.
Following his retirement from high school teaching, Preston started teaching various primitive survival skills and other environmental subjects with the Native American people. He also became a contemporary traditional singer and dancer.

Preston’s life completely changed perhaps for the better, when the reality TV series entitled “Mountain Men” premiered, increasing enormously his net worth. During the series, he portrayed his skills in fishing, hunting and making knives – he was featured for the last time in the sixth season.

It also illustrates their facing to different challenges of living in mountain, as they live far away from civilization, so they are in need to use only what they can find in nature and to rely on their own mind and skills. The show premiered on the 31st May 2012, and ever since it has been airing on the History Channel, gathering a large following and fan base. It is currently in its seventh season.
