He passed away in 2017.

Preston Roberts was diagnosed with a liver cancer in 2017. Unfortunately, he did not manage to win the battle of life as the tumor was found to be inoperable, so he passed away surrounded by his loving wife Kathleen and family on the 24th July 2017, at the age of 60, in Wilkes County, North Carolina, only three weeks after he was diagnosed, leaving his family and fans shocked. Following his death, a GoFundMe website was run to raise funds to help Kathleen and their children. It is still active.
Early Life and Education
Speaking about his early life, Preston Roberts spent his childhood in the small town of Brevard, North Carolina, nearby the Pisgah National Forest, where he was raised the eldest child alongside his four younger sisters by his parents. Other information about his parents has not been revealed to the media.
Regarding his education, Preston attended Atlantic Christian College, then transferred to Appalachian State University, from which he graduated with a degree in Art Education.
Friendship with Eustace Conway
Before his graduation in 1982, Preston met Eustace Conway and the two became very good friends, sharing the same interests and in particular love for nature, so they spent time together riding horses across South and North Carolina, and also moved across Montana, Nebraska and Wyoming. Before Preston became known all over the world, he alsp worked in the position of an art teacher in the Wilkes County School System in North Carolina.
