Who is Laisha Wilkins?

Mexican actress, producer and talk-show host Laisha Wilkins Perez, was born under the zodiac sign Taurus on 18 May 1976, in Mexico City. She has 22 acting credits, and is perhaps known best for playing Erica in the 2014 thriller movie “The Zwickys”, written and directed by Andres Valle and Carlos Valle, and which starred Silvana Arias, Mario Cimarro and Daniel Zacapa. It follows strong-willed woman Kayden Zwicky as she’s exacting revenge on those who murdered her husband – the film was nominated for a Festa de Cine Global Dominicano Award for Best Cinematography.

Laisha hasn’t been active in the film industry since 2018, but hasn’t officially retired from acting.

Education and early life

Laisha was raised in Mexico City alongside her sister Jatzidi Wilkins, by their mother Susana Perez and father Federico Wilkins; her father’s a non-celebrity Mexican man. and isn’t to be mistaken for the Televisa producer of the same name.

Laisha studied at a local high school in Mexico City, and it was during her four years there that she became passionate about acting; she was a member of the school’s drama club and appeared in plays performed both at the school and a community theatre. Laisha matriculated in 1994, and then enrolled at Center for Arts Education of Televisa, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in acting in 1998.

Laisha’s debut TV series role was playing Lorena in the 1997 episode “Accidente” of the romantic drama “Mi Pequena Traviesa”, which starred Hector Soberon, Enrique Rocha and Michelle Vieth, and follows Julia who has to dress as a boy and find work now that her father’s been hit by a car.

Laisha began attracting attention in 1998, when cast to star as Emilia Gonzalez in all 174 episodes of the romantic adventure series “Sonadoras”, which also starred Aracely Arambula and Alejandra Avalos, and follows two separate stories: one of five teenage best friends, and the other about teacher Jose Luis and doctor Fernanda who’ve fallen in love. Laisha’s other two TV series roles in the ’90s were in the 1999 crime thriller “Mujer, Casos de la Vida Real”, and the 2000 romantic drama “Crazy in Love”.

The year 2003 saw her appear in an episode of both the romantic drama “Bajo la Misma Piel” and the family musical “Don Francisco Presenta”, and in 2006 and 2007, she played Clarita Munoz in two episodes of the romantic comedy “La Fea Mas Bella”, which starred Jaime Camil, Angelica Vale and Patricia Navidad, and follows the life of a not so pretty woman who’s fallen in love with her boss. The remainder of the 2000s saw Laisha appear in the crime drama “Mujeres Asesinas”, the romantic drama “Wild Heart” and the romantic comedy “Un Gancho al Corazon”.

In 2011, she played Maripaz Lomeli Curiel in 95 episodes of the romantic drama “The Power of Destiny”, created by Maria Zarattini, and which starred Rosa Maria Bianchi, Delia Casanova and David Zepeda; it follows 14 years old Ivan who’s returned with his mother Alicia to his hometown, but has been rejected by his powerful businessman father.

Some of Laisha’s most recent TV series roles have been in 21 episodes of the 2016 romantic drama “The Three Sides of Ana”, 29 episodes of the 2017 romantic drama “The Candidate”, and the 2018 episode “Ringtone” of the comedy “Descontrol”.

Laisha’s debut film role was playing La Chica del Tiempo in the 2007 comedy “Mejor es Que Gabriel no se Muera”, directed by Sergio Umansky Brener, and which starred Alexis Ayala, Marco Antonio Aguirre and Alejandra Adame. It follows a soap opera writer who’s promised a fanatical cop that the two lead characters from her series would marry, and he’s now placed a bet on it; the movie won a Cinequest San Jose Film Festival Award for Best First Feature.

In 2010, Laisha played Persefone in the fantasy “Angel Caido”, written and directed by Arturo Anaya, and which starred Jose Alonso, Luis Caballero and Derik Dean; it follows an angel as he’s protecting a group of people from supernatural forces.

Laisha’s since had only a single film role, playing Valeria in the 2011 action “Contratiempo”.

The two haven’t revealed the exact date of when they met but it’s widely believed that they were introduced by a friend at a party in 2001; it was sometime in the mid-2000s that they exchanged vows in a small and private ceremony, attended by their closest friends and family. The two don’t have children together, but they have a pet dog Milanesa.
