If you watch the learning channel, then you have seen and heard Stacy London, as she is a fashion stylist and consultant, author, and magazine editor, best known for her appearance in the TV show “What Not to Wear” from 2003 to 2013.

Stacy London was born on the 25th May 1969, in New York City USA, and aside from her appearance in “What Not to Wear”, she is also known for her work at Vogue as a fashion editor, and for her fashion reports for such shows as “The Early Show” and “Today”, among others.

Stacy London Wiki: Early Life, Parents, and Education

Stacy, the daughter of Herbert London, president emeritus of the Hudson Institute, and his ex-wife Joy, is of Sicilian ancestry from her mother’s side, and Jewish from her father’s. After she matriculated, Stacy enrolled at Vassar College from which she graduated with a double major in 20th-century philosophy and German literature. During her Vassar College years, Stacy was a part of Phi Beta Kappa, and what’s more important, one summer, she was an intern in Christian Dior’s PR department, which inspired her to take an interest in the fashion industry.

Career Beginnings

Following her graduation from Vassar, Stacy started pursuing a career in fashion, and quickly assumed the position of an assistant at Vogue magazine. After a while gaining experience, she was appointed as the senior fashion editor at Mademoiselle. Subsequently, she started working with other notable publications, such as Italian D, Contents, and Nylon, among others, but it was her collaboration with such stars as Liv Tyler and Kate Winslet that helped her breakthrough.

Rise to Prominence

Stacy’s skills steadily improved, and she was contacted by Rebecca Taylor, Vivienne Tam and others to work on their fashion shows. Gradually she moved forward, and started working with Hanes, Wonderbra, CoverGirl, Suave, Target, Maytag, Swatch, Longines and Procter & Gamble, among many other successful brands, running their advertising campaigns, which certainly helped her reach stardom. She had even further success in 2003, when she was chosen by TLC to host the new reality show “What Not to Wear”. The show lasted until 2013, and Stacy hosted it with Clinton Kelly, appearing in 105 episodes. Thanks to this success, Stacy started hosting other shows on TLC, including “Shut Up! It’s Stacy London”, her own show, which then became “Fashionably Late with Stacy London” and lasted for a season, while in 2015 Stacy launched the show “Love, Lust, Run”, which became quite successful.

Further Success

Since her first appearance on TLC, Stacy gained status as a style and fashion expert, which has enabled her appearances on other networks, including NBC and ABC, contributing to such shows as “Today”, “Good Day to Live”, “Weekend Today”, “The Early Show”, and “Access Hollywood”, among many others.

Over the course of her career, Stacy had a number of endorsement deals, most notably with Pantene, serving as their spokesperson from 2009 to 2010, a contract that included a “gray clause”, which referred to Stacy’s gray streak, which he had since she was eleven years old. The condition is called Poliosis, and the clause stated that she is allowed to keep it. Among other endorsement deals, she has worked for Dr. Scholl’s and Woolite among others.

Style for Hire

Once she became a star, Stacy began working on other projects, including co-founding a style agency – Style for Hire with Cindy McLaughlin. The two focused on providing a stylist for people with average income, and after launching as a test in 2010, the agency became a full-time company in 2012m and since ths have expanded to 135 stylists in 24 cities; rather impressive don’t you think?

Stacy has transferred her talents to hard copy too, as she has served as an editor at large for Shape magazine and was also the creative director for Westfield Style, and the editor in chief for Westfield STYLE magazine. Stacy then fell into a downward spiral of depression, eating disorders and other health problems, but managed to recover well, and since 2017 she has been in a romantic relationship with Nick Onken.

Stacy has had a number of problems with her health; in her childhood she had psoriasis, and through that taught she later became a spokesperson for the National Psoriasis Foundation. Then there is her gray streak, and she has also battled anorexia and binge eating. At one time she weighed 90 pounds, or just 41kgs, and at another 180 pounds, or 82kg. Furthermore, in 2016 she underwent spinal fusion surgery to eliminate chronic back pain; following surgery, she had to take a six-month-long period of rehabilitation.
