JD steadily built his career in the following years, playing Matt Perez in “American Dreams” (2004) and Jose Marquez in “Clubhouse” (2004-2005), before he landed his breakthrough role as Eddie/Gwen in the 2006 TV movie “A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story”, a biographic drama about the young trans woman killed by four men, based on the true story of Gwen Araujo. His performance in the movie brought JD a nomination for the Imagen Foundation Award for Best Actor – Television, and the movie won the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Award – Outstanding Movie for Television.
In 2012, JD gained widespread recognition for his role as Nahuel in the final installment of the Twilight Saga, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2”.
