Emma Watson is one of the most determined persons Hollywood has ever known. Despite her permanent busyness with eight Harry Potter movies in a row, she’s managed to continue her education, balancing between her tight schedule and Brown University academic activities. It is hard to believe, but Emma has found enough time for her personal life too – if not very private – dating her fellow actors and other guys, making it all work quite well.
Born on 15 April 1990, Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson spent her first years in Paris, France, where she was born to her English parents, Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby. After her parents divorced, she moved to London with her mother, and studied at the Dragon School there, participating in various school productions. She successfully combined her studies and acting, later moving to Headington School, located in Oxford.
When in 2006 Emma passed the exams for a General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), Tom Ducker was there to congratulate the young lady on her success. Emma and Tom were good friends; they started dating at the beginning of 2006, and sources close to Emma say that she took him for a holiday to the French Riviera in July, and they apparently had a great time together. However, in May 2007 Emma was about to have more exams, including English, History of Art and Geography, and her goal was to achieve A-grades for all of them. So working hard at school, and on the set of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”, and “Ballet Shoes”, Emma quit her relationship with Tom, who himself was busy building his career as a rugby player. The Sun reported that the couple broke up amicably: ‘They just drifted apart as teenagers do’, said a source close to Emma and Tom.
In March 2008 Emma started dating Angus Willoughby, an aspiring Australian actor. They understood each other very well, as they were both in their final school year, preparing to enroll in college. They supported one another in preparing for exams, and didn’t worry when they couldn’t see each other for some time. The Telegraph states that the couple met at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in London, which they both attended. Born in Perth, Western Australia, Angus invited Emma to spend the Christmas holiday in his hometown. Angus’ father was a famous Olympic rower, Tim Willoughby, who passed away in January 2008. Emma tried hard to support Angus as much as she could, as they started dating soon after the tragedy.
In the middle of 2008 Emma applied to several universities, including a few in the US.
‘If I do go there to the US, I will do a liberal arts degree, but if I stay in the UK, I’ll do English literature’, she stated in her interview with The Telegraph, and even toured Harvard dormitories. Angus chose the University of Western Australia, which he entered in early 2009 to study Political Science and Government, despite his passion for acting. So inevitably in January 2009 Emma and Angus split. As of 2020, Angus is now working as an Associate at the High Court of Australia.
After her split from Angus, Emma was linked to Francis Boulle, a British reality TV contestant, Roberto Agnillera, an Italian actor, and Jay Barrymore, a British banker. After those short flings, some of which may have just been rumors, Emma started her relationship with Rafael Cebrian, whom she met when she moved to study at Brown University, in Rhode Island USA. Rafael was an aspiring Spanish actor and musician, the drummer in the band entitled “The Monomes”, and released two albums with them, “Give it an M” (2008) and “Sweet Champagne” (2011).
By 2009, when he started dating Watson, Rafael had already appeared in “Los Serrano” TV series, and also landed minor roles in “Hay alguien ahí” series and in a Spanish comedy “¿Por qué se frotan las patitas?” (“Why Do They Rub Their Feet?”). The couple dated for 10 months until May 2010 when they split. Rafael graduated from Brown University in 2011, pursuing his acting career; he appeared as Rodrigo Borgia Lanzol in the “Borgia” series, as Alejandro Ayala in “Narcos”, and as Enzo in “Greenhouse Academy”.
Already having a gap year between school and college, Emma wanted to focus on her studies, so she went on attending Brown University after the stressful filming of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”, worried about continuing her education successfully after such a break for work.
At the beginning of 2010 Emma did a shoot for the Spring/Summer Burberry fashion collection, alongside British model and rock-musician, George Craig.
George wasn’t new to the modelling industry, as he had previously worked with Burberry, while for Emma it was her first experience of modelling. They became good friends, chatted from time to time, and eventually became a couple in June. George was singing as a front man for his “One Night Only” band, while Emma tried to focus on her studies, so unsurprisingly they only dated for three months, eventually splitting in September. As of 2020, George is engaged to popular British blogger, Megan Ellaby.
In March 2011 Emma announced she was deferring her studies ‘for a semester or two’, to complete her filming of the movie “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2”. While still attending Worcester College, University of Oxford in the UK from 2011 to 2012, in the Visiting Student Programme, Emma found enough time to cozy up to American actor Johnny Simmons, who Emma met on the set of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” in 2011, dating only from June to November 2011. The movie was released in 2012, almost a year after their parting.
Seemingly Emma didn’t stay single for long, meeting Will Adamowicz while studying at Oxford; they started dating in October 2011 and were spotted the next year, attending the Coachella Music Festival in April 2012. Emma was very upset when she was spotted by the paparazzi, thinking that they wouldn’t find her in such a huge crowd. According to her own words, she didn’t want to come to Coachella, as she didn’t want to be photographed, but her friend bought her a ticket for his birthday, so she simply couldn’t refuse taking it. ‘It’s difficult on my dating life, because anyone I get photographed with is automatically my boyfriend. So it just makes it look as if I’ve had, like, 6,000 boyfriends’, she later miffed during her interview with Glamour in 2012.
Appearing on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2012, Emma said that Will impressed her with his openness, which was to her amazement typical behaviour for American men: ‘I remember a few nights into Brown University, this guy just being like, ‘I like you. You’re great. Let’s go on a date. Let’s do it.’ I’m like, ‘I’m sorry, what just happened?’ This is like a huge culture shock for me’. Emma also shared that she found American men ‘open and very straight-forward’, while English men, in her opinion, were ‘very restrained’.
Emma and Will dated for almost two years before separating, a source close to Emma confiding that they were no longer in touch in August 2013. They were last seen together in the airport of New York in June, reunited after a few months of Emma’s intense promotions of her then-latest movies, “This Is The End” and “The Bling Ring”, but apparently agreed to separate.

Emma Watson and Matthew Janney
In January 2014 Emma was spotted in the company of another rugby player, Matthew Janney, who was also her University of Oxford mate. Some sources were concerned about Matthew’s reputation, as he was often called ‘a real hit with the girls’ – Emma’s fans just hoped that he wouldn’t hurt her feelings. Some reporters also wrote she could be a good match for him, and could help him to settle down. According to The Mirror, Matthew was studying languages at Oriel College, Oxford, where he was called ‘Oxford’s most eligible bachelor’, while his rugby team’s fans voted for him as the ‘best looking player in the team’. Emma and Matthew enjoyed avacation in the Caribbean, and were also spotted walking hand-in-hand around New York, and during a trip to Spain, but in December 2014 Emma’s representative announced her separation from Matthew, saying that they ‘remain friends’.
Emma Watson and the rumors on her fling with Prince Harry
Prince Harry is now a happily married man, but in 2015 the whole world stood still anticipating news on his rumored hook-up with Emma Watson. The two were seen talking together, and some people noticed Emma laughing way too flirtatiously, reacting to Prince Harry’s jokes. To make it clear to everybody, Emma wrote a post on Twitter, stating that they were simply talking: ‘ Remember that little talk we had about not believing everything written in the media?!’ Nevertheless, many of her and Harry’s followers knew that he was rather thoughtless in his relationships prior to Meghan Markle. In the end, it appeared to be a made up story, as Emma and Prince Harry never considered each other as future partners.
According to Roberto Aguire himself, the Mexican actor and producer first met Emma Watson on the set of “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”, as he had an internship in the special effects department in 2005.
He also stated that they were in touch through all those years, but one day their relationship took a turn and became romantic: ‘…we had a chance encounter that lead to us spending half a day together, exchanging stories and dance moves’, Roberto recalled the time when Emma turned from his friend to his girlfriend.
Roberto started his acting career in 2012, landing the role of Rex in “Sand Sharks”. He then appeared as Emilio in “Struck by Lightning”, and as Leo in “Boulevard” , sharing the screen with Robin Williams and Kathy Baker. At the time Roberto was dating Emma, she was starring in “Colonia” as Lena, while Aguire worked on several episodes of “NCIS: New Orleans”, and starred in “The Morning After” comedy. Emma received warm words and nice tweets from Roberto, as he was not against sharing some details of their affair with the public.
However, it might have become the reason why Emma separated from him, as she didn’t like shedding light on her private life. The reason for their split in September 2015 isn’t known, but Emma’s fans consider his actions to be the reason Emma broke-up from him, to find a more taciturn fellow to date.
Emma Watson and William Knight
The tech entrepreneur William Knight was 35 when he met Emma, who was 10 years younger than her future boyfriend. Their first mutual appearance happened in October 2015, when they attended the “Hamilton” Broadway musical in New York together, behaving as an obvious couple. During the show Emma looked relaxed, and didn’t even mind paparazzi taking pictures of her and William. In February 2016 William was reported to have introduced Emma to his parents, which made the Harry Potter star’s fans excited – her relationship with Knight looked quite serious.
William was said to be a good match for Emma, as he graduated from Princeton with a BA in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology in 2003, and from Columbia Business School with an MBA in 2011.
Since Emma was also keen on studying, Knight seemed to have a high chance to become her particular interest. In May 2017 they were seen having dinner in New York, though Emma hated every shot taken of them, as she still wanted to keep her private life low-key: ‘In Hollywood, who you’re dating gets tied up into your film promotion and becomes part of the performance and the circus. I would hate anyone that I was with to feel like they were in any way part of a show or an act’, she told Vanity Fair in 2017. So, the couple announced their split in November 2017 – Emma was spotted with a female friend walking around Paris, France, when the news of her break-up from William appeared in the tabloid headlines.
Emma Watson and Chord Overstreet
In March 2018 Emma was spotted with her next boyfriend, Chord Overstreet. The Nashville-born actor was mostly famous for landing the role of Sam Evans in the “Glee” series from 2010 to 2015. Chord is also known for portraying Josh Hollis in “Private” and for voicing over several characters of the animated series “Pickle and Peanut”. Even though Emma was seen hand in hand with Chord in March 2018, they were reported to have started their relationship a month earlier, but didn’t show up together because of Emma’s passion for total privacy. However, they were captured by photographers leaving the Vanity Fair Oscars after party together, so the news of their romance spread fast. In June 2018 Emma and Chord were spotted kissing while walking in Los Angeles, which made their fans happy after occasional rumors on their split in May 2018. However, the love-story didn’t last long, as they split after less than a year of dating.

Emma Watson and Brendan Wallace
On 16 October 2018 the photo of Emma Watson and entrepreneur Brendan Wallace kissing in a cozy cafe in Mexico hit the news of every celebrity online source. The Hollywood star was unnoticed by other visitors of the restaurant, but the paparazzi got the hot shots of the new couple. Emma was taking a break from her acting career after her successful appearance in “Little Women” in the role of Meg March, so she could focus on her personal life. Brendan Wallace is known for co-founding the Latin American Uber – Cabify. He is also the partner in an investment company entitled Fifth Wall. Emma and Brendan broke-up in May 2019, Emma supposedly to focus on her support for women’s rights, helping to open an advice line for those who suffer from sexual abuse at work. Then, she was spotted with Cole Cook, another entrepreneur, who she enjoyed a walk with in May 2019, right after her split from Wallace.
Emma Watson and Tom Felton
In August 2019 Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, posted a photo of him teaching Emma Watson how to play the guitar, with the caption that she was a quick learner – their fans were also quick… naming them a couple. Hermiona and Draco’s fans suspected them of having an interest in each other for some time, so the picture of them sitting on the couch close to each other and wearing home clothes made the fans go ahead, flapping their gums over the love story between fellow actors. The two indeed appeared a lot together while promoting another Harry Potter film; they were spotted together on red carpets from 2004 to 2011, so the rumors about their warm feelings for each other seemed to be quite reasonable. However, neither Emma nor Tom the rumors of them being a couple, but fans are still waiting for the updates on “Dramiona” affair.
As of mid-2020, Emma appears to be single, or at least unattached, but given her track record, almost sprinting between affairs, one wouldn’t bet on that situation lasting for any length of time!
